Book Description: (From Amazon)

Nova Reed used to have dreams of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she’s getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn’t want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he’s done, what he’s lost. He’s sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he’s too damaged to get close to her, yet she’s the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

Sandy’s Review:

Wow this book was a heavy read.  As a mother I felt heart broken for both of these kids.  At the start of their lives Nova and Quinton had to deal with great loss.  They both turned their feelings off by locking them away or numbing them with drugs or alcohol.  Nova’s mother seemed to just turn a blind eye to everything thinking that sooner or later her daughter would get better.  Quinton’s family blamed him and just turned their backs on him.  When they meet each other I can see why they gravitated towards one another, both sad, lost, and needing to feel something.  I was scared that Nova was going to latch onto Quinton because of the similarities to Landon and they would both go down in flames.  Nova does start to see the light and the need to fix herself before she tried to fix anyone else.  I was happy and sad with the ending; I wanted Nova to be strong enough to go on but I was afraid of Quinton alone with his demons.  If you like Jessica Sorensen’s stuff this will not disappoint.  I give this book 4 out of 5 starts because I did not like any of the other characters in the book, they were all wastes of space.
