Entwined with You (A CROSSFIRE NOVEL) by Sylvia Day

Sunset over Lower Manhattan, New York City

Description:

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

Sandy’s Review:

Ok I have to say it, I was not impressed.  A lot of nothing happened.  The books picks up right where they left off with Eva telling Gideon that she knows what he did to Nathan and the police aren’t considering him a suspect anymore.  They still have to pretend to not be together so they don’t insult the police.  Gideon is still obsessed with Eva and knows her every move.  They still have kinky sex when they can sneak away together.  They did eventually get married but no one can know. It just seemed like a filler book, she didn’t resolve anything with Gideon, his nightmares, his family, or with a crazy reporter that is now stalking him.  Hopefully the next book comes out soon and starts to tie up some loose ends.

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

Book Description:

I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

Sandy’s Review:

Wow I have to say this is not what I expected.  Nastya and Josh are not your typical characters, they do not even act like they like each other for a good portion of the book, they just ‘get’ each other.  When I first started reading about Nastya I just wanted to know what the hell happened to this girl that she was so traumatized that she didn’t talk. Then I got pieces very slowly so it frustrated me at times, I can understand how the other characters in the book felt.

Josh was just dealt a shit hand in life.  He just wants to get through the last of his heartache and Nastya shows up.  When she just pushes her way into his life he just shrugs and lets her. She’s like him, neither of them give a damn, wants pity, or questions. He wants to remember, she wants to forget.

I have to say the romance is real because they gradually fall in love out of respect for each other and the realization that life is better together than apart.  Good YA read.

A unique perspective…

The Mr. Men Show

The Mr. Men Show (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This weekend I had a pleasant surprise, my brother-in-law asked me for a book recommendation. So I got to thinking… (yes I know that’s scary) why not invite him to contribute to the blog and see what his incites are into some of the books.  Hmmm, might have to rename the blog to the Venus/Mars book blog. This should be fun. 😀

~ Happy Reading

Sky

Description:

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

Sandy’s Review:

Hopeless was a book a came across while trying to figure out a new book to read.  I had read numerous reviews and thought it sounded interesting enough to give it a shot.  I was blown away, it took me a few days to process it after I read it.  The way the story unfolds it reveals everything so gradually you really do not see what’s coming, but once you get all the pieces you wonder how you missed those clues.  This book says so much about the human spirit and how our own minds will protect us.  I don’t want to go into any more detail because I want everyone to read it and experience it for themselves.

Reflected in You By Sylvia Day

English: Henry Cavill at the Vanity Fair celebration for the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Description:

Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession…

Sandy’s Review:
Reflected in You starts right where Bared to You left off.  Gideon and Eva are still crazy about each other and also driving each other crazy over their insecurities.  This books digs a little deeper when it comes to Gideons demons.  Eva starts to realize why Gideon is so closed off and has no close relationships as the people who were closest to him were the ones that hurt him the most.  This book also introduces a new character Brett Kline which gives Gideon a taste of his own medicine and a view of who Eva use to be.   At times I understood where Eva was coming from when she questioned him about his behavior but once the book was done it all made sense and I loved Gideon more for it. There’s lots more sex (of course), drama, and murder… Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Happy reading…

Champagne Toast (Love of My life #2) by Melissa Brown

Champagne Toast

Champagne Toast (Photo credit: Eph Zero)

Book description:

Kate Armour and Evan Maxwell fell hard and fast for each other while attending college. Their once passionate and loving relationship ended when old scars eventually tore them apart. Two years after their breakup, they’re each struggling to piece together what went wrong in an attempt to move forward.

Kate, a no-nonsense bartender, must face her past while attempting to focus on her future.

Evan is stifled by his bitter heart, which threatens each and every relationship he attempts after walking away from Kate.

Will life offer them a second chance at love or are old patterns simply too hard to break?

Sandy’s Review:

I liked this book more than the first one, I still did not feel attached to the characters.

Kate was her own worse enemy, she knew she had a pattern & shared it with Evan. She created doubt where there wasn’t any before. She also had massive self-esteem issues so she left before someone could leave her.

Evan seemed so trusting of people except for the person he claimed to be the love of his life. After Kate opened up to him and shared her faults he was always looking for cracks. These two characters had no trust in each other or themselves.
